Professional Writing Resources

An introduction to writing in professional situations

Before you choose which writing format you would like to review, read this and the next lesson on how to navigate this course on professional writing. All writing formats, or genres, share the same ideas of grammar and linking, as well as your readers' ability to comprehend your message.

However, each genre does have their own unique organisational aspects, and there might be a few differences in specific grammatical structures or specialised vocabulary. Each genre does contain its own sentence and lexical preferences, so bear this in mind.

The idea is to adopt a professional and persuasive tone in your writing, and this is reflected by the style and structure of language which you choose for your various task types at work. Sometimes, this means that certain types of sentence are used in different genres or for different purposes, or certain types of emotive language are needed as a means to your end.
